Systemic Change Workshop

A Society of St. Vincent de Paul Mentoring Program

The Western District Council has received a grant to establish a mentoring Program which we have named VISION NAMED….HOPE CLAIMED. The program is a developing ministry designed to address poverty in our community. The workshop is Free, and all materials required to complete the course including, workbooks, writing supplies, 3 ring binders, calculators, etc. are furnished at no charge. Participants will receive a Gift Card for each session attended and a monetary bonus if all sessions are completed.

The Society’s vision is to transform lives through systemic change, thereby ending poverty one person at a time. VISION NAMED….HOPE CLAIMED is the Western District’s initial step towards making this vision a reality.

UPDATE!!! The next workshop will begin on Jan. 5, 2024. Applications are now being accepted for this next session.

Participants, called “investigators” of VNHC will:

Develop a mentoring relationship with one or two mentors

Be a part of a 16 -18 week informational workshop

Examine their own life experiences while exploring community issues

Understand what is required to make lasting life changes

Assess their personal resources as a move to greater self-sufficiency and

Gain concepts, tools, and relationships to make a difference, not only in their lives but in the life of the community.

VISION NAMED….HOPE CLAIMED provides an opportunity for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and community members in Polk County to join together to show the world, that together, we can make a difference in people’s lives, while also making a difference in the community.

The next workshop will begin on January 5, 2024, and you are invited to be a part of this new adventure. The invitation starts with education, followed by training, and finally action. We are looking for volunteers to be Facilitators, Mentors, and others to arrange for venues, child care, food and snacks and other roles. There may be some compensation available, depending on other costs, but expenses will be covered by the District Council. Training is provided free of charge. Trained Facilitators can be powerful advocates for VNHC even if they choose no further commitment.

We are called to holiness through serving others. Together let us pray that we may live out the plan He has for each of us.

We are now accepting applications for the next workshop scheduled to begin January 5, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church Hall. The class will be every Friday, 5:30-8:00 p.m., with a light dinner included. There will be no class on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. Submitting an application now secures a spot on our interview list, and we will contact you as updates become available. You can fill out and submit your application below. All responses remain confidential, are for our use only, and will not be shared with anyone outside of SVDP .
